GAFFE

WORD: GAFFE

MEANING:
1. A clumsy social error; a faux pas: "The excursion had in his eyes been a monstrous gaffe, a breach of sensibility and good taste" (Mary McCarthy). 2. A blatant mistake or misjudgment.
